Isolation and iron discipline, Berisha's life under house arrest according

Sali Berisha's son-in-law, Jamarbër Malltezi, through a detailed interview on Alfred Lela's 'Pasvon' podcast, has shed light on the dynamics of the life of the historic leader of the Democratic Party, who spent a long period of isolation under house arrest a few years ago.

Malltezi emphasizes that despite age and isolation, Berisha maintained an extraordinary intellectual capacity.

He describes it as a "moving encyclopedia" with a photographic memory that manages to remember the most diverse historical events and details.

The most surprising aspect of the story is related to the ruthless "self-discipline" that Berisha applies to himself. To illustrate this, Malltezi tells a simple but significant episode from a family lunch.

When friends sent two crates of fresh cherries, Malltezi himself had consumed a large amount without thinking. In contrast, Berisha had chosen exactly five cherries to eat, and had set aside only a sixth as a "reserve", which he later decided not to consume at all due to his sugar-control regime.

He maintains the same approach with other foods, such as the rigorous restriction of eating only half a fig per meal. According to Malltezi, this absolute control over the body and basic human instincts shows the extent of an iron will, which has been used throughout his life even in difficult political decision-making.

He explains that this self-discipline also extends to his physical activity. Despite the fact that his space for movement is strictly limited within the walls of his home, the former Prime Minister maintains a strict sports regime.

He walks for three quarters of an hour every day on a small veranda measuring 8 by 5 meters, using this time to reflect and plan. Even more striking is his refusal to use the elevator, preferring to walk up and down the stairs regularly to keep his body in shape. This model has also served as an inspiration for Malltez himself, who admits to copying this routine in his daily life.
