Democratic Party MP, Ina Zhupa, has objected to the non-inclusion of her request for an urgent interpellation with the Minister of Environment on the agenda.

From the Parliament podium, Zhupa raised concerns about projects that, according to her, endanger important natural areas such as Zvërnec and Narta, accusing the government of favoring construction and investments in protected territories without transparency and without respecting environmental standards.

The Democratic MP mentioned a series of controversial projects, including interventions in the Zvërnec Monastery area, the Butrint concession, and the construction of the Vlora airport, claiming that they have brought consequences for the country's ecosystems and natural resources.

"An urgent interpellation with the Minister of Environment, precisely on the issues of protected areas and Zvërnec. This country also has a Minister of Environment, it does not only have a Minister of Construction and Infrastructure. And to come and give an account to the Albanians what the project is, are the protected areas protected, where is the Minister of Environment? Why has the urgent interpellation not been included in the agenda? You colleagues were taught not to ask, you concreted whatever you wanted, you made the monastery bay there a complex, you did not ask that it was a protected area. You gave Butrint with a concession, you did not ask at all. You made the Vlora airport a protected area, you did not ask. Today you want to enter Narta headlong and you do not ask. You forgot, you forgot that Albanians do not want to show Albania as a fairy tale with flamingos, which have existed and to show children only plastic ones even in zoos.

But they are fighting for Albania. They are fighting for Albania and today they are ready, for a battle that I personally started with Butrint. The Democratic Party has taken the law on protected areas 21/2024 to the Constitutional Court. And you gentlemen, to your shame, have approved it. Today the European Union is asking you to remove it. I brought you the law, you have not even included it in the program. Why have you not included it in the program? I have brought it to you since May 14. It is one of the demands of the protesters. Honest protesters, Albanians. Not Greeks, not Serbs, not Russians, not agents. It is Albanians who feel sorry for Albania. That sustainable tourism, honorable colleagues, look at the standards of the European Union, is environmentally sustainable.

This is how Albania develops, respecting the environment and building according to the standards required by the European Union. There is no sustainable tourism with sustainable concrete. There is no telling children that here was a lagoon, here was a lake, here was a protected area, now it is this person's villa, this person's resort, this person's palace. This is the story you want to tell Albanians, but in fact today you should retreat and be afraid. From honest Albanians, who protest there beyond every party, beyond every political wing, because they are united by one thing: Albania, the interest of Albania. You cannot tell us that you are anti-development because you demand respect for the environment, respect for what nature has built in thousands of years and you want to destroy it in 10 days. You cannot tell us that you were doing an environmental study with a bulldozer and were protecting the environment with it" , declared Zhupa.
