Trial in the GJKKO, Meta: I am only responsible for my actions, Kryemadhi does

Former President Ilir Meta spoke today at the Special Court, where his trial is taking place. During his speech in the courtroom, Meta accused SPAK of concealing facts and manipulating the investigative process, focusing particularly on the issue of the lobbying contract with the McKeon Group company.

"I am very outraged, honorable judges, participating prosecutors, because in addition to the many lies repeated in the preliminary hearing, I heard something shocking. The prosecutor said that after the investigation with McKeon, they found out that there was only a 15 thousand USD invoice ," Meta declared.

According to him, from the moment he was asked about this issue, he admitted that there was only one payment of 15 thousand dollars, made by decision of the SMI leadership and through the bank.

Meta claimed that in September, Albanian authorities received a letter of request from the US, raising suspicions of illegal meetings and payments, while another clarifying response was later received.

"I am outraged, because since I was asked about this issue I have made it clear that I only had one payment of 15 thousand USD, by decision of the chairmanship, by bank. In September they received a letter of request for McKeon as if meetings had taken place in the USA and illegal payments. I was kidnapped on October 21 at 12:08 by unknown persons.

At 14:06, I was informed of the SPAK prosecutors' order. After I was arrested, on November 15, another response came from the US, to be precise. The gentlemen not only did not inform me, but in January they asked me again about McKeon Group. After they received the final response in November, they asked me again in January,"  he said, adding that the agreement was between the LSI and GSIS, and there is no signature of Ilir Meta on that contract.

Following his testimony, Meta said that the trial against him is being politicized due to a lack of evidence.

" There is a tendency to politicize the process. When you don't have facts, you will make it political. The prosecution has hidden the testimony given to Ndini Tavani in 2011 by Hejsek, where it is clear that he did not remember the specific name. Even the 200 thousand is done to manipulate public opinion. It is not even clear what it is about. There is no answer ," said Meta.

In the end, Meta emphasized that he is willing to take responsibility only for his personal actions, while adding that Monika Kryemadhi should not be held responsible for the CEZ-DIA issue.

"I am here to take responsibility for each of my individual actions. I am neither for taking nor for giving. I take responsibility for mine, Ms. Kryemadhi does not have to take responsibility for CEZ-DIA," Meta concluded.
