Cultivating cannabis on a plot, 35-year-old arrested in Mirdita

An operation codenamed "Coordination", conducted by the Mirdita Police in collaboration with the Lezha DVP Operational Force, has led to the arrest of a 35-year-old man who was cultivating narcotic plants in a rural area.

Ervin Lleshaj, a resident of the village of Prosek, was caught red-handed in a plot in the village of Trazhë, while taking care of cannabis seedlings. According to the official police announcement, 225 suspected narcotic seedlings of the cannabis sativa variety, which were in an early stage of development, were found and destroyed in the plot.

During the operation, some of the seedlings were seized as material evidence, while the rest were destroyed at the scene by burning.

The 35-year-old is facing charges of "cultivation of narcotic plants", while the procedural materials have been referred to the Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction of Lezha, for further action.

The police announce that field checks will continue in the coming days as part of the prevention and crackdown on the cultivation of narcotic plants in remote mountainous areas.
