Tragedy in Germany, small plane crashes into a residential complex, two dead

A plane crash has shook the North Rhine-Westphalia region of Germany today, where a small plane crashed over an apartment complex, causing the death of at least two people.


The incident happened at noon today and according to reports from the local newspaper Rheinische Post, the plane first hit the façade of a residential building, to then crash into the courtyard of the complex, which burst into flames shortly after the collision.


Among the victims is the pilot of the plane, who had planned a landing at the nearby Mönchengladbach airport but had earlier reported engine problems. The identities of the victims have not yet been made public by the authorities.


Dozens of police, firefighters and emergency teams have been engaged at the scene, while investigations into the full causes of the collapse are ongoing.

Footage from the scene shows significant material damage and panic among residents of the area, while authorities have surrounded the area for security reasons.
