The message from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, announcing a new policy to restrict visas for foreign officials and individuals involved in the censorship of American citizens, was also distributed today by the United States embassy in Tirana. 

The US embassy's social media reposted Rubio's message, which highlights that Americans have long faced attempts to be fined, sued or harassed by foreign authorities for exercising their freedom of speech - a right that, according to him, is fundamental and inalienable. "
Freedom of speech is essential to the American way of life - a birthright, over which foreign governments have no authority," the statement said.

Under the new policy, the United States will no longer allow individuals who work to restrict this right to enjoy the privilege of travel to the US.

"Foreigners who work to undermine the rights of Americans should not enjoy the privilege of traveling to our country. Whether in Latin America, Europe or elsewhere, the days of passive treatment for those who work against the rights of Americans are over, " Secretary Rubio's message said.
