Election silence today, Albania heads to the polls tomorrow. For the first time,

A month after the electoral campaign, Albania is today in electoral silence.

Meanwhile, tomorrow citizens will head to the ballot boxes to decide who will govern them for the next 4 years.

According to the Electoral Code of the Republic of Albania, Article 77 defines the period of electoral silence and the restrictions related to it.

According to this article, the day before the election date and the election day, until the closing time of the polls, constitute the period of electoral silence. During this period, any election campaign activity is prohibited, including the holding of rallies, other election activities and the distribution of propaganda materials by electoral entities.

For those who violate this provision, the Electoral Code provides for financial sanctions. In Article 174, it is determined that electoral entities that break the electoral silence may be fined by the Central Election Commission (CEC) in the amount of 500,000 lek. Likewise, media that violate this rule may be fined in the amount of 2,000,000 lek.
