DP: Wanted persons are looking to collect votes for the Socialist Party

The candidate for deputy of the Democratic Party in the district of Durrës, Gent Strazimiri, has raised the alarm about a series of irregularities and serious violations that, according to him, are undermining the integrity of the May 11 elections. At a press conference, Strazimiri said that wanted persons were involved in the collection of votes for the Socialist Party.

According to him, an internal audit of the CEC has revealed massive discrepancies in electoral lists and phenomena such as double voting, "itinerant" voters, suspicious registrations of immigrant voters and systematic pressures on prisoners.

The wanted persons are looking to collect votes for the Socialist Party. The fact that citizens are denouncing them en masse is showing that it is completely unsuccessful. What I would like to underline is another report. It is an internal document of the CEC, it is an internal audit of the CEC, which shows the real official figures it shows, not the denunciations of citizens, which shows how the situation is so far, i.e. until April 30.

The main findings are: massive discrepancies in the voter lists, there are 521,873 citizens who were registered with incorrect or incomplete address data, turning them into itinerant voters. Which means, available, from center to center, unidentified to vote several times in several polling stations. There are 133 individuals who have officially renounced Albanian citizenship and continue to appear on the electoral lists within the country, 5 of whom were also voted to vote abroad. So there is duplication, indicating double registration and double voting.

127 citizens have been registered as voters both in the country and abroad, which constitutes a direct violation of the electoral code. In this big prison that Albania has returned, we already have those prisons that are official prisons. It has its own problems there as well. There are 1271 prisoners registered in separate polling stations, although they do not have their official residence there but in other locations. Which constitutes a violation with both feet.

Of course, you have seen after the threats and pressures against prisoners have been published on social networks with numerous testimonies and pressures that show intimidation of prisoners, who are also told that they will be mistreated or transferred if they do not vote for the Socialist Party. These actions, of course, constitute a principled violation of free and fair elections. We have dubious registration patterns that suggest patronage and manipulation.

There are 1483 repeated applications from the same IP address and have been identified in the immigrant voter registration system, PER. Which suggests orchestrated activity and manipulation of the diaspora vote. The system has failed to verify the address of overseas voters, resulting in the rejection of many legitimate applications for no apparent reason. We have forwarded all this step by step to the OSCE-ODIHR Observation Mission. We also thank them for the cooperation and understanding they have shown.
