Drug distribution through milk trucks, 45 arrested in Italy, including Albanians

Italian authorities have carried out a wide-ranging operation in several areas of Italy, executing 45 arrest warrants against Italian, Albanian and North African citizens. The investigations, which have lasted for several years, have revealed the links between two criminal groups operating in the international trafficking of drugs, including cocaine, hashish and marijuana, from Latin America, North Africa and the Netherlands.

The operation was coordinated by the Brescia District Anti-Mafia Directorate, with support from the Central Operative Service (SCO). During the investigations, important data were discovered regarding the use of encrypted communications and close support from known mafia organizations.

Details of the operation: Out of 45 arrest warrants, 30 are prison arrest warrants, 12 house arrests and 3 with mandatory stay. The investigations have uncovered two main criminal groups, which managed drug trafficking networks, one in the province of Brescia and the other with strong links to the 'Ndrangheta mafia families and Albanian collaborators.

The first criminal group had a well-developed network for trafficking cocaine from Colombia, while the drugs passed through Morocco and Spain. The second group, with links to the 'Ndrangheta mafia families, operated mainly in the province of Brescia, where they had set up a storage center for drugs coming from abroad.

In total, over 135 kilograms of cocaine, 90 kilograms of hashish, 3 kilograms of marijuana and high-caliber weapons were seized during the operation. Means of transport were also seized and sophisticated methods of hiding the drugs were uncovered, including the use of truck tanks and warehouses in quarries.

In 2023, another operation led to the discovery of a clandestine cocaine cutting and packaging refinery run by Colombian nationals. 34 kilograms of cocaine and about 11 kilograms of other substances for drug processing were seized.

This successful operation is another important step in the fight against the mafia and international drug trafficking in Italy, which has involved organized groups from many countries.
