"My mom is so weird and she's controlled me my whole life. I had to be completely independent of her once I graduated high school."

Lourdes sought financial independence at a young age, reportedly paying for her own college tuition and later renting an apartment in Brooklyn. Despite feeling the need to be independent, she has developed a greater appreciation for her mother's hard work and dedication. We recall that recently Madonna admitted that being a mother is not easy. The 64-year-old told Vanity Fair that:

"Growing up with a mother like me is a challenge. It's been the hardest, hardest battle. Today I'm still struggling to figure out how to be a mother and do it right. Having children and raising them it's a work of art and nobody gives you a manual. You have to learn from mistakes. It's a profession that takes a lot of time and it's exhausting because there's never a break."

Madonna has six children: daughter Lourdes, 26, whom she shares with her ex-boyfriend, Carlos Leon; son Roço, 22, with ex-husband Guy Ritchie, David, 17, Chifundo 'Mercy', 16, and twins, Estere and Stella, 10, whom she adopted from Malawi.
