"Land Rover" abandoned for two years in the Port of Durres, 3 firearms

The Border Police have found and seized three firearms and ammunition in a vehicle at the port of Durres.

The Land Rover vehicle, which was locked in the container yard at the port, had been abandoned since December 2022 after the sender failed to show up to complete customs procedures.

Police have announced a search for a 24-year-old man.

"Land Rover vehicle in customs transit from Kosovo to Albania with final destination the Democratic Republic of Congo, which entered the Republic of Albania through the Morinë Border Crossing Point on 20.12.2022.

The container where the vehicle was located had been closed in the container yard at the port of Durres since December 2022 after the sender had not appeared to carry out customs operations and on 04.06.2025, the Durres Customs Branch Authority decided to carry out the procedure for opening and inspecting this container.

During the physical search of the Land Rover vehicle, the Police services found inside the vehicle in an adapted space 2 automatic firearms, 1 pistol firearm, 1580 combat cartridges of various calibers and 12 cartridge clips for automatic weapons and pistols.

The investigative and procedural actions carried out by the investigative structures of the Durrës Border Police and the Durrës Port Border Police for the legal documentation of this event have made it possible to identify and declare wanted the suspected perpetrator of weapons possession and involved in the trafficking of weapons and ammunition from Kosovo to the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Specifically, Kosovar citizen Y. I, 24 years old, was declared wanted and work continues in cooperation with the Kosovo Police to locate and capture him.

The firearms will be sent to the Institute of Scientific Police to undergo technical, ballistic and fingerprint examinations to see if they have been used in any previous criminal events.

"The investigative structures of the Durrës Local Police Directorate, in cooperation with the Border Police under the direction of the Durrës District Prosecutor's Office, are continuing investigative actions in cooperation with Kosovo authorities for the full legal documentation of this case with the aim of identifying other persons involved in this criminal activity ," the police announced.
