Drug boss 'El Nacho' accomplice shot dead

An accomplice of drug cartel king Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán was executed inside his car during an attack in northern Mexico, which also injured his eight-month-old daughter.

Ignacio Paez Soto, a Sinaloa Cartel operative, was sitting inside his vehicle with his wife when a group of assassins began attacking outside a parking lot at a commercial store in Caborca, Sonora.

Witnesses told authorities the attackers got out of a Cherokee Jeep and fired at Paez's Volkswagen Passat before fleeing, the Daily Mail reports .

Paez - known as 'El Nacho' and 'C1' - was shot more than 50 times and pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

His little girl was shot in the arm and immediately rushed to a hospital by the Red Cross, while the baby's mother, who was also at the scene, was not physically injured but was treated by doctors after suffering a seizure. nerve.

Paez is said to have overseen the Sinaloa Cartel operations throughout the northern state of Sonora since 2002, including ground in the cities of Sásabe, Alta, Pitiquito and Caborca.

The Sinaloa Cartel, along with the New Generation Jalisco Cartel, are the largest and most powerful drug trafficking organizations in Mexico.

But the Sinaloa Cartel has been embroiled in an internal power struggle since El Chapo was captured in 2016 and extradited to America in 2017 on drug charges.

The three sons of El Chapo, otherwise known as Los Chapitos, have fought for control of the organization against a cell created by Rafael Caro Quintero.

Caro Quintero is wanted by the United States for the 1985 assassination of Special Agent Kiki Camarena of the Drug Enforcement Administration.
