Germany approves immigration agreement, Albania on the list of safe countries

Immigration was one of the key topics of the electoral campaign in Germany and has now taken its place in the new coalition agreement that is expected to govern the country.

The document agreed between the parties emphasizes that the basic right to asylum remains inviolable, but on the other hand, new measures have been included for more rigorous control and management of migratory flows. "We will regulate immigration by directing it in such a way as to limit illegal immigration," says the statement of the conservatives who have agreed to tougher formulations in this area.

Among the main measures included in the agreement are:

Continuation of border controls throughout Germany until the European Union guarantees effective protection of the external borders;
Expansion of the list of safe countries of origin, which means a shorter and easier process for rejecting asylum applications from citizens of these countries.
Currently, this list includes all EU countries and ten other countries such as Georgia, Ghana and Kosovo. The coalition aims to further expand this list to include countries such as Algeria, India, Morocco and Tunisia.

This initiative aims to make it easier for German authorities to examine and reject asylum applications from people who do not come from countries with a real risk of persecution. In these cases, it is the responsibility of the applicants to prove that there is an individual and real risk of persecution in their country.

The new agreement is expected to spark debate, especially from organizations that protect immigrant rights, but it remains a reflection of the growing pressure that Germany is feeling to better manage migration flows within the framework of domestic and European policies.
