Albanian tenor Saimir Pirgu in an interview for Euroneës Albania spoke about the concert "Christmas in Vienna", which will be broadcast from 21 to 24 December on Austrian television.

He said that in this concert he will sing two arias, one of which is the work of Naim Frashëri, "Words of the Candle". The latter will be sung in Albanian, as according to him it is appropriate for the situation in which the world is.

"For the Vienna concert, the program and the bears I have chosen have been a little good to give a message also in Vienna and for our Albanian public. I have chosen two arias, one with the text of our poet, our renaissance, Naim Frashëri, "Words of the Candle", that for the situation we are in, it would be very good for this candlelight to illuminate at least anyone who has a foggy brain this period . Also the melody of Ennio Morricon that we have lost this year and this in his memory, I thought "Nella Fantasia", is the best a to remember the great master. "As much as I could, I gave the opportunity to sing in Albanian, an Albanian aria on Austrian television," he said.

The tenor during the interview also talked about the artistic life during the pandemic, which according to him has been hit and that it almost does not exist in any country in the world.

"I think I am like everyone else, disoriented by the fact that everything has changed us and affected us all. It has affected us artists the most, because artistic life does not exist in almost every corner of the world. However, with the few opportunities we had, we tried to give what we could. As is this concert in Vienna. The first two or three months in Italy, where I was at home in Verona, were extremely difficult. During the summer I had many activities, I was one of the first to start my activities in Rome, Naples, Vienna. Where possible something was done. But again autumn and winter came and we are facing this great challenge that is being posed to humanity by a being who does not know how to protect himself. It’s a little hard, we’ve completely changed our mentality of making art and all the artists are surviving.

Pirgu did not forget to mention Albania, for which he said that he misses a lot and as soon as he finds the opportunity he will come immediately.

"I have not come to Albania for almost a year and a half and I miss him so much, I can no longer bear this closing of the borders. It has also limited my relationships with our people, our loved ones. I look forward to the inauguration of the new opera house. I do not know, the reasons are many. When there is so much loss of people it is hard to talk about art. "As soon as possible, it will come because I miss him too much", said Pirgu.
