Numbeo 2022: Albania, penultimate in Europe for the poorest health services in

Albania was ranked penultimate in Europe, leaving behind only Malta for poor health care services according to the index built by the database on quality of life "Numbeo" for 2022.

Other profiled reports and indices have also given poor assessments of the Albanian health system. To understand the preparedness of health systems in Europe and the region during the Covid-19 pandemic, the World Bank conducted an assessment to clarify the capacity to cope with the situation.

The World Bank noted that national per capita expenditure on health in the Western Balkans; across the region are much lower than the European Union (EU) average. In the region, the lack of funds for health systems is often suffered by families, whose direct (out-of-pocket) expenses are high. Albania is one of the countries that has had the highest increase in lives lost as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Comparative Eurostat data and national regional statistics show Albania, along with two other countries in the region, Kosovo and northern Macedonia, are the three countries that have recorded the highest increase in additional mortality since March 2020, when the pandemic " gradually conquered Europe by September 2021.

Other national INSTAT data indicate that in the country. Since April 2020, when the pandemic wave began to give its first consequences in Albania until the end of September 2021, there have been about 11 thousand additional deaths compared to the average of the respective periods 2016-2019. / Monitor
