Daylight Saving Time returns on Sunday, March 30th! Clocks go forward 60 minutes

On the night between Saturday and Sunday, March 30, 2025, clocks will move forward 60 minutes, marking the transition to daylight saving time. This will happen at 02:00 on Sunday morning, when the clocks will move forward to 03:00, beginning the energy saving period. This system, known as daylight saving time, was first introduced during World War I and has been widely used since 1972, initially with the aim of saving energy.

However, with the advancement of technology, its original purpose has become less effective, as the lengthening of the day has led to greater use of air conditioning, creating a "boomerang" effect that can lead to more energy costs.

According to experts, this time change can have negative effects on health. Beth Ann Mallow, a professor of neurology and pediatrics at Vanderbilt University, explains that after switching to daylight saving time, individuals may experience symptoms such as daytime fatigue, irritability, decreased mental and physical performance, hunger disorders and an increased risk of heart attacks, strokes, migraines, headaches, weight gain and more traffic accidents.

One hour of sleep loss may seem small, but it has a big impact on the body. According to research from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, 55% of adults feel tired after switching to daylight saving time. This change has a direct impact on the production of melatonin, the hormone that regulates the sleep-wake cycle, by delaying its production due to increased exposure to light.
