Residents of Tropoja and Has block Qafë Prushi customs: We will boycott the

Residents of villages in the Bytyq administrative unit of the Tropoja Municipality, as well as residents of two villages in the Golaj administrative unit in Has, have come out this Monday in protest over the condition of the road.

For about an hour, they have been blocking the Qafë Prushi customs point, blocking the Krumë-Qaf Prush-Gjakovë national road.

Tired of the numerous promises made over the years by governments, they have gone out in protest with banners in their hands.

Some of them read "No Road, Boycott Elections", "We Don't Want a European Passport, But We Want Roads", "Endless Promises, Endless Potholes", "Have mercy after 81 years, pave us at least 1 meter of road".

"We don't have a party, we have a vital one, we are not looking for luxury, we are looking for a road. We cannot call this just a road, it is in a chaotic state. Not a single cent has been invested. We have every right in the world, not only to take to the streets, but also to block the axis. We will not stop until our demands are met. We have been deceived enough, we will no longer accept empty electoral promises," one of the residents told the media.

According to 83-year-old Muharrem Malaj from the village of Peraj i Has, the road was built during the Italian occupation in 1938 to exploit the area's mineral resources. Residents say that since 1938 when it was built, this road has not undergone any repairs, despite promises made over the last 30 years.

They said they will not vote in the May 11 parliamentary elections if the Government does not consider their only request for the construction of the road, promised in 2017 by Mimi Kodheli, who was running for MP for the Kukës region.
