Amid gender controversy, Algerian boxer Imane Khelif wins boxing gold
Algerian boxer Imane Khelif won the Olympic gold medal. During Friday's match, Khelif beat boxer Yang Liu of China to earn a spot at the top of the podium.
Khelif said the "attacks" on her gender gave the victory a "special taste".
The Algerian was reported to have failed the gender eligibility tests but, after being cleared to compete in Paris, beat China's world champion Yang Liu.
"I am fully qualified to participate in this competition ," said Khelif. "I am a woman like any other woman. I was born a woman. I lived as a woman. I competed as a woman - there's no doubt about that."
Khelif said she had been the victim of "bullying" and that the International Boxing Association (IBA) "hate me and I really don't know why".
