Albanian Bashkim Osmani, the suspected boss of the mafia gang targeted by Europol's massive operation against money laundering on Tuesday, is expected to be extradited to Mallorca from Croatia next week. Osmani was arrested at his BO Palazzo hotel in Porec as part of a police operation, which was carried out simultaneously in several different countries, Spanish media report.

The 55-year-old Kosovo Albanian, based in his five-million-euro residence at Camp de Mar in one of Andratx's most exclusive areas, was at his hotel in northern Croatia. Investigators from the Civil Guard and the National Police went to Croatia to co-operate in his arrest, as there were fears that a leak could have disrupted the entire operation. Osmani reportedly has contacts throughout Croatia and controls a former Croatian secret service chief as well as current agents.

He did not resist arrest and is being held in a maximum security prison, awaiting transfer to Mallorca. Investigators say it is crucial that he be brought to Mallorca. If he were to stay in Eastern Europe, he could receive "preferential treatment".
