Germany and France mediate in the Kosovo crisis

 

Chancellor Scholz and President Macron want to mediate in the conflict that has intensified in recent days in Kosovo. In the context of the summit of the European Political Community, they meet with President Osmani and President Vucic.

The spokesman of the German government, Steffen Hebelstreit, announced in Berlin that within the framework of the second summit of the European Political Community, which takes place on Monday in the capital of Moldova, Chisinau, the German chancellor, Olaf Scholz, will hold talks together with the French president. Macron with the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani and President Vucic about the current situation in the north of Kosovo. Scholz and Macron also hold talks with President Vucic, who before the summit in Chisinau said that the first step to reduce tensions would be the withdrawal of the "alleged mayors" of the municipalities from the north. He called on the Kosovo authorities to recall the mayors. This step would be the most powerful step, Vucic requested.

The French President, Emmanuel Macron, in the context of the meeting in Chisinau, has called the conduct of local elections in the north a mistake. Macron has said that there is a clear responsibility of the Kosovar authorities for the current situation.
