The Political Leader of the DP in Fier, Gazment Bardhi, has denounced the seizure of property by the Fier municipality from 24 families.

In March 2018, the Municipality of Fier notified 24 families that their homes would be demolished as they were affected by the handball stadium project. This decision was opposed by the residents, but in June 2021 they were ordered to vacate their homes within 5 days, although the expropriation procedures had not yet been completed. In October 2023, six houses were demolished, while the others were not affected, although they were officially informed that they could be demolished any day now.

After the residents turned to the Prosecutor's Office and the Court, in December 2023, the Territorial Development Agency officially confirmed that there was no project for the construction of the handball stadium. So, the residents were evicted from their homes, some of them had collapsed, while the Fier Municipality had not yet prepared the project or received the relevant permits from the National Territorial Council.

For 7 years, 24 families have faced the arrogance, arbitrariness and illegality of the local government in Fier, which has evicted them from their homes, demolished them, while in that area there is not even an approved project for the construction of the stadium, an unfulfilled promise in every electoral campaign of Edi Rama and the Socialist Party. These families are forced to live in rented accommodation and some of them have abandoned Fier, heading for other cities.

The purpose of this illegal activity is very clear: using the properties of these citizens to build mansions in the city center, to extract huge monetary benefits at the expense of the citizens.

Therefore, I take this opportunity to appeal to the Special Anti-Corruption Structure that has registered criminal proceedings in this case to conduct a full and prompt investigation, with the aim of identifying all persons involved in this activity and holding them criminally liable.

Meanwhile, I guarantee these citizens that after May 11, such stories will end and no one can drive them from their homes, destroy their life's work and sweat, with the sole purpose of rewarding their friends with land for the construction of palaces and towers and other corrupt benefits.
