SP 'steals' the logo of the European Political Community, DP: EU

DP National Council member Akil Kraja has requested a reaction from the European Union regarding the main logo of the SP election campaign.

Kraja said in a statement to the media from the blue headquarters that this logo turns out to be the official logo of the European Political Community Summit, thus constituting an abuse of Albanian and European finances.

Kraja demands the DP's immediate reaction as such abuse, according to him, leads to a diplomatic incident.

DECLARATION:

The main campaign logo of the Socialist Party is on the verge of an abuse of public finances at worst, and on the verge of producing a diplomatic incident, at best.

At electoral meetings, in field appearances or in national media, Edi Rama and other Socialist Party candidates appear publicly promoting their number on the ballot through a stylized logo in the shape of a star.

A logo which actually turns out to be the official logo of the European Political Community Summit, which will take place in Tirana soon.

This constitutes a diplomatic scandal unprecedented in democratic republics, and one that can only occur in authoritarian states where all decision-making is concentrated in a single hand.

For years, the Democratic Party has been denouncing the use of public assets for electoral purposes, violating Albanian laws in force. Today, it is the European Union's turn to witness how Edi Rama misuses every kind of public or European asset, no matter how small or large, in the service of his electoral interests.

If the logo and other materials of the European Political Community summit were paid for by Albanian taxpayers, their use for electoral purposes by Edi Rama clearly constitutes an abuse and legal violation of the electoral code.

But even if these costs are shared with European partners, Edi Rama's use of the communication assets of this summit for electoral purposes constitutes a flagrant violation of any diplomatic cooperation protocol.

The abuse of the logo of the European Political Community meeting is an extremely symbolic and material case of how public finances are misused by Edi Rama in the service of his electoral objectives.

The European Union, just as it did for IPARD funds, European taxpayers' money, must also speak out about the misused funds for the Summit, Albanian taxpayers' funds.
