DP writes to CEC and OSCE mission, lists violations with distribution of envelopes in Greece

The Democratic Party has sent a letter to the CEC and the OSCE-ODIHR mission listing the violations found with the distribution of envelopes, mainly in Greece.

The DP says that the most serious violations have been recorded in Greece, where the majority of immigrants live, but serious problems have also been verified in Italy, Germany, the US, Britain and other EU countries.

"Given the reported problems regarding the distribution of envelopes with ballots and electoral materials to Albanian voters resident in Greece, the DP-ASHM has repeatedly made available indications and evidence on these issues.

"We emphasize that the submitted materials represent only a portion of the cases collected until 06.05.2025, without excluding the possibility of additional cases that may come to us in the following hours and days," the letter states.

The letter mentions violations ranging from lack of procedural transparency, to political pressure, unofficial distribution of ballots, violation of the secrecy of the vote, etc.

The main categories of violations according to the PD:

– Irregular delivery of envelopes (Envelopes left without a recipient's signature, to the wrong address, or received by third parties)

– Two ballots in one envelope (Voters receive or find more than one ballot in one envelope)

– Lack of instructions for voters (Envelopes without clear instructions, leading to errors or invalidation of the vote)

– Political pressure and vote buying (Threats or influence from SP exponents, especially in Greece)

– Delay or non-delivery of envelopes (Thousands of voters have not received their envelopes at all, even though they were registered on time in the PER)

– Illegal collection of votes (Envelopes collected by party militants or unauthorized persons)
