PDK: The best solution is a government formed by parties that were in opposition

The Democratic Party of Kosovo said it is convinced that the best solution is for the new executive of Kosovo to be formed by the parties that were in opposition in the previous mandate.

Through a press release, following the leadership meeting, PDK said it believes that dialogue and cooperation are the only way out of political crises and to restore institutional normality.

"PDK is committed and convinced that the best solution for the country is the formation of a new government, composed of parties that were in opposition in the previous mandate. A government that would stop institutional degradation, would bring Kosovo out of international isolation and would implement development policies for all citizens, without distinction. With an agreed list of state priorities, which would return Kosovo to the right path of development and Euro-Atlantic integration," the PDK statement said.

The Democratic League of Kosovo has proposed the creation of a transitional government until the election of a new president next year.

The PDK said that any initiative aimed at resolving the blockade "deserves to be heard and discussed."

According to this party, which came second in the February 9 elections, the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, as a supra-party institution, can take the necessary steps to convene a meeting with all parliamentary political entities, in order to find a solution to the blockade in the formation of new institutions.

"A comprehensive roundtable could be the right step to find a way out of the institutional crisis," said PDK.

Other Albanian parties have expressed their willingness to discuss the LDK's proposal for a transitional government, but the Vetëvendosje Movement has described it as an unacceptable idea.

Kosovo has still not established new institutions three months after regular parliamentary elections were held.

Earlier on May 7, during the 12th continuation of the constitutive session of the Kosovo Assembly, deputies failed to constitute the legislative body.

The issue has stalled over the election of the speaker of parliament, whose proposal belongs to LVV as the winner of the elections.

The LVV nominated Albulena Haxhiu for this position, but in six votes she failed to receive the necessary 61 votes. The parties that were in opposition last term have considered Haxhiu a divisive figure, and some of these parties have asked the LVV to change the candidate.

The LVV has rejected calls to change the proposal for the speaker of parliament. The party previously proposed that the speaker of parliament and the deputy speakers of the Assembly be voted on as a package - a proposal that was rejected by other parties.

Days ago, the leader of the LVV, Albin Kurti, also invited the leader of the PDK, Memli Krasniqi, and the leader of the LDK, Lumir Abdixhiku, to a meeting. The latter did not accept the invitation.

Kurti then wrote a letter to Abdixhiku proposing that they reach an agreement for co-government. However, Abdixhiku rejected this offer and proposed the creation of a transitional government, which would include all Albanian parties, until the election of the president.

PDK, LDK and AAK have accused LVV of blocking the constitution of the Assembly, as it does not have the numbers to form a new Government. Meanwhile, LVV also blames these parties and the Serbian List for blocking the constitution of the legislative body./ REL
