'I killed a man', how a phone call solved the stabbing murder in Xibar/ Witnesses speak out

A serious incident shook the village of Xibër-Murrizë in Klos on Wednesday evening, where 65-year-old Selim Velsula was stabbed to death near his home by his cousin, Hazbi Velsula. The incident occurred on June 11, 2025, and the victim's body was found with multiple wounds caused by a cutting instrument.

After committing the crime, the suspected perpetrator left the scene and remained on the run for several hours. He called his sister and confessed to the crime: “I killed a man,” which led to the immediate notification of the police by the relative. Hazbi Velsula was arrested at midnight by the Tirana DVP services, while he was hiding in his brother’s apartment in the Allias neighborhood.

According to family members, there were no previous conflicts between the two parties. Rasim Velsula, the victim's first cousin, stated:
"We had regular in-and-out meetings. I say that the perpetrator was depressed, I can't explain it any other way. He is young, unmarried, lived in Tirana with his family. He only came to work the land. We were not aware of any problems between them."

The State Police has officially clarified the incident and the arrest of the perpetrator:

"The incident that occurred yesterday evening, where citizen SV was found without signs of life, suspected of being killed with a cold weapon (knife), is being clarified. The perpetrator of the murder is being arrested. The perpetrator was arrested at midnight by the Tirana DVP services, in Allias.

Specialists of the Section for the Investigation of Crimes against the Person at the Dibër Police Department, in cooperation with the Mat Police Commissariat, immediately after the incident that occurred on 11.06.2025, in the village of Xibër-Murrizë, where citizen SV, 65 years old, resident of this village, was found near his property with no signs of life and with injuries to his body caused by a cutting tool, have organized the work to bring the perpetrator to criminal responsibility and to clarify the circumstances of the case.

As a result of quick and professional investigative actions, the dynamics of the incident were clarified. From the actions taken, it is suspected that citizens HV and SV initially had a physical conflict for weak motives and then citizen HV struck citizen SV with a cold weapon (knife), causing his death.

Following the actions, thanks to information received from the Tirana Local Police Directorate regarding the location of the suspected perpetrator, Tirana DVP services arrested and handcuffed the suspected perpetrator of the incident, citizen HV, 32 years old, resident of Allias, who had taken refuge in his brother's apartment after the crime.

As material evidence, the cold weapon (knife), suspected to have been used by the perpetrator, was seized.

The procedural materials were referred to the Dibra Prosecutor's Office for further action, for the criminal offenses of "Premeditated Murder" and "Unlicensed Production and Possession of Cold Weapons."
