Maliq farmers protest

A protest over the lack of water for irrigation took place today in the village of Veliternë in the administrative unit of Pirg, Maliq.

Residents say that the amount of 30 liters per second coming through irrigation canals is insufficient to meet needs during this hot period, putting agricultural crops at risk.

According to them, the same situation has been repeated for years, while they accuse the responsible institutions of mismanaging water distribution.

The village of Veliterne is one of the most productive areas in agriculture, especially for the cultivation of onions and potatoes – crops that require regular irrigation to maintain yield.

Residents warn that, if immediate measures are not taken, the damage to agriculture will be considerable.
