The Ministry of Agriculture confirms 4 outbreaks of cattle plague in different

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development announces the aggravated situation caused by the viral disease of plague of small ruminants (Peste des Petits Ruminants – PPR), which has so far affected four areas in the country.

The first confirmation of this serious and highly contagious disease was recorded on June 4 in the village of Domen, Shkodër Municipality. Subsequently, cases were also reported in the villages of Vrenjt (Dibër), Val (Bulqizë) and Polenë (Skrapar).

The total number of affected herds is four, with 716 small animals affected, 25 dead and 153 eliminated, while the elimination of other animals continues.

In the field, the National Veterinary and Plant Protection Authority has set up 39 control groups that monitor 983 farms with 164,803 sheep and goats, to identify the epidemiological situation and raise farmers' awareness of the economic risk of the disease.
