The 40-year-old survived the air disaster: When I opened my eyes, I saw bodies

An Air India plane traveling to London today with 242 people on board crashed minutes after taking off from Ahmedabad airport.

One of the survivors, Vishesh Kumar Ramesh, 40, a British citizen of Indian origin, recounted the dramatic moments after the plane crashed.

“Thirty seconds after takeoff, we heard a loud noise and then everything went dark. When I woke up, bodies were everywhere. I got up in fear and started running among the pieces of the plane,” he said from his hospital bed in the general ward of the Asarë Civil Hospital.

Vishesh was in India on a family visit and was travelling to the UK with his brother, Ajay Kumar Ramesh, 45, who he said was sitting in another row. He is now missing.

"Please, help me find her. I don't know where she is," he said through tears.

Visheash was rushed to the hospital by an unknown person who pulled him out of the rubble. He suffered injuries to his chest, legs and eyes, but his life is out of danger.

Among the passengers was former Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani, for whom there is still no confirmed information. His family and aides are conducting searches at the hospital where the injured and the bodies of the victims have been taken.

According to Air India sources, there were 169 Indian nationals, 53 British, 7 Portuguese and one Canadian on board. Indian authorities are investigating the cause of the crash of the plane, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.
