Journalist denounces "scandal": Brachytherapy out of order in

Journalist Osman Stafa has denounced another serious scandal taking place at the Oncology Hospital in Tirana, which according to him is costing the lives of Albanian patients. In a video published on the social network Facebook, Stafa raises the alarm about the malfunctioning of the Brachytherapy equipment – a specific form of radiation used in the treatment of gynecological cancer.

According to the journalist, the device is out of order due to lack of maintenance and institutional negligence, despite the fact that it should have been regularly maintained under warranty terms to ensure trouble-free operation during patient treatment.

"This is not an intervention that can be replaced with any other treatment. Brachytherapy is vital and irreplaceable for women with reproductive system cancer. This is a silent death, caused by negligence," Stafa says in his video.

He also refers to a report by the Supreme State Audit Office (SSA), according to which, over a two-year period, 600 women were left without treatment with Brachytherapy, while for 12 years, this device has not functioned at the University Hospital, due to mismanagement, lack of accountability and abuse of power.
