Democratic Leader Sali Berisha admitted that the fight against what he calls "the first and only drug dictatorship in Europe" has been very difficult.

"Today is Edi Rama's 12th year in power. He did not start the drug war this year, nor the year before. He laid the foundations in 2015 when he covered Albania from south to north with cannabis. I was the first voice in Albania and the world when I spoke about the drug war ," he said when invited to Debate by Alba Alishani on A2 CNN. 

According to Berisha, who is now seeking to oust Rama from power, this happened as a result of a project by the prime minister. To this end, he brought back statistics from the period when Berisha himself was governing the country.

"Albania had the best indicators in the fight against drugs. First, the main heroin route from the east passed through Albania. Documents of the time prove that it was moved, passing from Macedonia to Serbia. Second, there were only one village with cannabis plots and this was called Lazarat. Third, on the coast of Italy, in 2012, a total of 12.5 kg of cocaine passed from Albania. So much so that Italy lifted border control with Albania. The boat moratorium had excellent effects ," he added.
