Russia 'likely' to have suffered 300 casualties in Makiivka attack, British intelligence says
The UK Ministry of Defense says Russia is "highly likely" to have suffered more than 300 casualties in a military attack on the town of Makiivka near Donetsk city on January 1. If confirmed, the device would represent one of the deadliest attacks on Russian forces since the start of the war.
"We estimate that most are likely to have been killed or missing, rather than injured ," the British ministry said in its daily bulletin published on social media.
Russia had previously said 89 of its troops were killed in the attack.
"The discrepancy between the number of casualties Russia admitted and the likely true total highlights the widespread presence of disinformation in Russian public announcements," he added.
