White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan warned of "catastrophic" consequences if Russia uses nuclear weapons in Ukraine.

Sullivan said the US would adopt further economic sanctions against Russia if the Kremlin ends its "fake" referendum.

On further fallout against Russia over referendums in occupied Ukrainian territories, Sullivan pointed to the G7 leaders' statement on Friday and said there would be more announcements from the US in the coming days.

"They reiterated that there would be consequences and specified that this would include additional expanded sanctions, including sanctions against entities and companies outside of Russia that support the Russian war machine or support these fake referendums or Russia's efforts," Sullivan said.
