Trump presents his vision for the next 4 years in his inaugural address, here
Donald Trump is now officially the 47th president of the United States, after being sworn in on Monday. Vice President JD Vance was also sworn in.

The ceremony took place in the Capitol Rotunda due to freezing temperatures outside. Former presidents, influential tech billionaires and lawmakers were there to watch one administration end and another begin.

In his speech, Trump attacked the Biden administration and outlined his vision for the country with him at the helm. He said that "a wave of change is sweeping the country" and that "America's decline is over."

Here are some of the key lines from the speech:

A "golden age": At the start of his remarks, Trump said that "America's golden age begins right now," as he promised to put the country first. After that, he turned to darker rhetoric and took aim at past political rivalries.
Vision : The new president claimed that today is "liberation day" and said his election victory shows that the country is "rapidly rallying behind our agenda."

Trump said he wants to be remembered as a "peacemaker and unifier" and closed with a message of strength for the country. "We will not be cowed. We will not be broken and we will not fail," he said.
Expected executive actions : Trump listed a series of executive actions he plans to sign later, including declaring a national emergency on the U.S. southern border. Trump also said he will "sign an executive order to immediately end all government censorship and restore free speech to America."
Immigration and border security: Further on immigration, Trump criticized "dangerous criminals" who he said have entered the U.S. illegally and the lack of border security. He claimed the previous administration failed to protect Americans.
Disasters : After deadly wildfires in Los Angeles and Hurricane Helene in the southeast, Trump warned that the US "can no longer provide basic services in times of emergency," claiming without evidence that the Los Angeles fires burned "without any sign of protection."
Energy and the economy: The president repeated his promise of “workout, kids, workout” as a way to reduce inflation. Trump also promised to roll back clean energy initiatives and “immediately begin overhauling our trading system.” That would include taxes and tariffs on foreign countries, something he has spoken out about extensively.
Public health: Trump criticized the U.S. public health system and claimed the nation has “an education system that teaches our children to be ashamed of themselves, in many cases, to hate our country.”
Attacks on Biden: Trump attacked President Joe Biden, saying his government “cannot handle a simple crisis at home while it is stumbling through a continuous catalog of catastrophic events abroad.”
Here are some more details from the start of a new presidency:

Oval Office : A rug designed by former first lady Nancy Reagan is now back in the Oval Office, the source says. Trump had this in his office during his first term. A portrait of Andrew Jackson also hangs as the building transitions from Biden to Trump decor.
Inaugural fashion: Designed by New York-based milliner Eric Javits, Melania Trump's hat — which almost darkened her eyes — was a stark flourish to a neat, military-style ensemble at the inauguration.
