Rama accepts Russian influence in Serbia: It is the only problem for the Balkans

Prime Minister Edi Rama has accepted Russia's influence on Serbia, when the latter has repeatedly refused to impose sanctions on Moscow.

From London, when asked about the "Open Balkans" initiative, Rama said that the only problem is Russian influence in Serbia. He asserted that Belgrade should stand by other Balkan countries that are distanced from Vladimir Putin's politics.

"It is part of a process of initiatives and steps, the entire transformation that the Balkans is experiencing. We must never forget that we are in the best position, with all the problems. Albanians are in the best position they have ever been in. Relations in the Balkans have never been better.

There are barricades, there are some people, there are inflammatory statements. Everything is moving in the right direction. The only problem that should not be underestimated is the Russian influence. That's why we need to support Serbia from our side, strengthen relations with it" , said Rama.

Asked months ago about Serbia's attitude towards Russia, Rama came to the defense of President Vucic, saying that due to special ties, Belgrade should be understood.

"You have to understand that Serbia is in a very different position from many others, because of its history, because of its special ties with Russia. We must do everything we can to keep the potential threat out of the Balkans. Therefore, no more pressure should be exerted on Serbia to impose sanctions on Russia. Such sanctions are not possible, because without Russia, Serbia cannot survive" , he said.
