LaCivita shares 'Politico' article: Why media close to the government

Chris LaCivita, the American campaign advisor to the Albanian opposition, has shared an article published in the prestigious international media outlet Politico, which raises concerns about the lack of transparency after the closing of the ballot boxes in Albania. The article notes that, unlike usual electoral practice, Albanian media did not publish any exit polls after the voting ended.

According to Politico, the decision not to publish the predicted exit polls has created confusion among citizens and international observers, leaving it unclear whether the Socialist Party has managed to secure a fourth mandate or whether the opposition has made significant progress.

“A few hours after the polls closed, it is still not clear who the winner is,” the article says, while political analyst Lutfi Dervishi emphasizes to Politico that there is no clear answer why the media did not publish the polls. He says that it is likely that political parties have exerted pressure on the media to avoid influencing the vote counting commissioners.

According to the article, the only post-vote poll was published by Klan Kosova and the English-language website Albanian Post, which showed a significant advantage for the Socialist Party with 51%, compared to 38% for the Democratic Party.

Major Albanian media outlets, including Top Channel and Ora News, offered no explanation for the lack of exit polls, while according to Politico, local and foreign journalists tried to contact these outlets overnight, but received no response. The article describes the situation as a “media omertà,” suggesting a tacit agreement not to publish polls until the Central Election Commission speaks.
