"Institutional crime and negligence, urgent measures must be taken"/ Freedom Party demands resignation after poisoning of children in Gramsh

"Institutional crime and negligence, urgent measures must be taken"/

The Freedom Party has reacted in harsh tones after the serious incident in Gramsh, where dozens of children were poisoned in a state-run kindergarten, due to food provided by a private catering company.

In a statement to the media, the Secretary for Public Relations at the PL, Arla Merja, described this event as an "institutional crime", accusing both local and central authorities of irresponsibility and a profound failure in guaranteeing food safety.

"In a country where public contracts are awarded with favors and state safety controls exist only on paper, food safety has become a daily risk for citizens," declared Merja, while emphasizing that the poisoning of over 70 children constitutes a serious act that has shocked public opinion.

According to her, the lack of institutional response, the silence of the Ministries of Health and Education, as well as the inaction of the Prosecutor's Office, testify to a system paralyzed by clientelism and a lack of transparency.

The Freedom Party demands:

A full and transparent investigation into the incident by the justice system;
Immediate termination of the contract with the private entity that provided the food;
Resignation of local leaders and responsible structures that have failed in food control;
Review of all food contracts in public nurseries and kindergartens throughout the country.
“This is a direct consequence of state capture, clientelistic contracting and a total lack of control,” concluded Merja.

The event continues to be in the focus of public opinion, while the reaction of institutions to hold accountable the persons who allowed this scandal is awaited.
