Gonzato on May 11: Brussels spoke clearly, comprehensive electoral reform is

The EU Ambassador to Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, called on the government and parliament to adopt a comprehensive electoral reform, including OSCE recommendations.

In a statement to the media from Korça, while referring to May 11, Gonzato stated that Brussels spoke clearly regarding the elections.

The Ambassador also pointed out the OSCE report which cited the use of public administration in elections.

"The final OSCE report has not yet been released, I think Brussels spoke clearly regarding the May 11 elections in Albania. It is time for the Albanian government and parliament to adopt a comprehensive electoral reform that includes past and present recommendations. And in fact, the result gives the government a greater responsibility to undertake this reform because it has the numbers. It is the expectation of Albanians if Albania is on the path to the EU.

In relation to the fulfillment of standards, there is an OSCE report which gives the conclusion, it has recognized the standards but also cites the use of public sources but the administration of the elections has been commended. I would like to commend the Central Election Commission for the manner of administering the elections and the cooperation with the General Prosecutor's Office and SPAK. Any party that feels robbed should report to the judicial bodies. However, I wish that both parties work towards the direction of the EU", said Gonzato.
