Internet panic over the disappearance of Annabelle, the infamous doll "possessed" by demons

Internet panic over the disappearance of Annabelle, the infamous doll

A wave of panic has recently spread on social media after rumors that the famous Annabelle doll, known from horror films, has disappeared from the Occult Museum in Connecticut, USA.

But officials have stepped in to quell speculation: Annabelle is safe and not missing.

The rumors began to spread after a stop on the "Devils on the Run" tour, organized by the New England Society for Psychical Research (NESPR), in the city of New Orleans, where some visitors claimed they did not see the doll in its display case.

This immediately ignited the internet with conspiracy theories that the doll had come out of its wrapping and "escaped" - an idea that sounds scary to many, knowing the object's dark history.

But NESPR representatives have categorically denied everything. In a TikTok video on May 24, investigator Dan Rivera stated: “Annabelle is not missing. She has never been missing. She is safely located in her home at the Warrens Occult Museum.”

To dispel any doubts, NESPR also published a message on Facebook: "It's just a rumor... Annabelle was NOT stolen. The doll is safe in its place."

However, mystery fans will have the chance to see the doll for themselves in October, when it is expected to be exhibited at the 2025 Rock Island Roadhouse Esoteric Exhibition in Illinois.

A doll with a scary story

Known for her unexplained behavior, Annabelle's story began in the 1970s, when a young nurse in Hartford, Connecticut, received her as a gift. According to the Warrens, the doll moved on its own, left messages, and even allegedly attacked a person. After investigating, Ed and Lorraine Warren declared that she was being manipulated by a demonic entity, not the spirit of a child, as was initially believed.

After a religious blessing, the doll was moved to the Warrens Occult Museum, where it was kept in a specially protected wooden box. The museum closed to the public in 2018, but Annabelle continues to be one of the most famous objects in the paranormal world.
