The massive fire that engulfed the landfill near the Elbasan Incinerator is still active.

For three days now, the area has been under the power of flames, while large plumes of smoke continue to harm the health of surrounding residents.

It is reported that the authorities have intervened by noon by dumping 10,500 cubic meters of soil over the affected area, to limit the spread of the flames, but the fire remains active in the inner layers of the debris, which makes it difficult to fully control the situation.

So far, there has been no official reaction from the authorities. This Wednesday, the Minister of Defense, Pirro Vengu, and the Mayor of Elbasan, Gledian Llatja, were near the landfill, but both officials did not give any statements to the media, avoiding comments on the cause of the fire, the measures taken and the possible impact on public health or the environment.

Meanwhile, the lack of official information has increased the concern of the local community, especially about air pollution and the risk to surrounding areas. Citizens demand transparency and accountability, while authorities seem to choose to remain silent.

However, it is worth noting that this now repeated incident once again brings to attention the phantom incinerators for which millions of euros have been paid and which still continue to be out of order.
