Edi Rama has decided to blame the failure with food control and safety on the National Food Authority (AKU), giving a "solution" that is reminiscent of Dr. Adhamudhi's logic: to close the AKU.
In fact, the problem is not the institution itself, but the way it has been run and used during Rama's government.
As with many other state structures, the AKU has been politicized, degraded by clientelistic appointments and has become a mechanism incapable of fulfilling its basic function: guaranteeing the food safety of citizens. It has even been turned by Rama's government into a silent 'killer' mechanism.
But the AKU, in essence, is a technical and monitoring structure, which according to the law has clear powers to control food products at every link in the food chain - from import, to production, storage and trade.
But these powers, as long as they are not supported by real human, technical capacities and institutional integrity and are enriched, their authority remains only on paper.
The lack of functional laboratories, overlapping competencies with other institutions, the appointment of directors without experience or with political connections, the lack of regular inspections and selectivity in the application of the law – these are the symptoms of an institution paralyzed not because of the structure, but because of deliberate poor management. This is the nature of the institutions of the Albanian state from 2013 onwards.
Instead of reforming the public administration, building a body of independent, well-equipped inspectors and not influenced by politics or market interests, Rama chooses the simplest and most absurd path: abolishing the institution.
If we follow the same Adamudian logic, then the ministries where rampant corruption affairs have been committed should also be closed. Why doesn’t he close Belinda Balluku’s ministry, where billions of euros have been wasted and stolen? Why doesn’t he close the Ministry of Health, where millions of euros are looted with concessions and people die from lack of medicines and services? What does the AKU do more than the Ministry of Health in this regard???
Or even the Prime Minister's Office itself - the place where the biggest thefts this country has ever known are conceived and executed.
Closing the AKU is not a reform. It is just another attempt to shift attention from the incompetence and profound failure of governance in the field of food safety, to avoid political and institutional responsibility.
Doctor Adhamudhi's solutions are to deceive useful idiots, who unfortunately have the right to vote, but are not few in this country and, most importantly, they do not think, they do not know that Edi Rama does not care at all what they and their children eat.
