The general director of the company "Bankers Petroleum Albania Ltd", Hongping Xiao, and former director Leonidha Çobo were arrested yesterday as part of an investigation launched by the Fier Prosecutor's Office, as they are suspected of tax evasion and other criminal offenses, dating back to 2004.

Journalist Ola Xama, invited to MCN TV, raised doubts that this issue may have political or economic behind-the-scenes implications, suggesting a "territorial war" for control over the company.

"The contract with Bankers was signed in 2004 and has passed silently through several governments - from the time of Fatos Nano, to the two mandates of the DP, and then to the three mandates of the SP.

 Now, suddenly, after 20 years, the CEO of one of the largest Chinese companies operating in Albania is arrested.

 Suspicions cannot help but arise about other motives.
According to her, clashes over the contract and reports of violations are not new, but only now are the justice bodies acting. 

After the company passed into Chinese ownership, reports were filed and open letters were sent to embassies against Leonidha Çobo, but investigations did not begin immediately.

This whole situation makes you think that maybe we are dealing with a backstage and a fight for someone else to take ownership of 'Bankers Petroleum'. It could be much more than just tax evasion,

"Investigations are being conducted by the Fier Prosecutor's Office in cooperation with the Economic Crime Police and the Tax Directorate," said Xama.
