Croatia recommends its citizens not to travel to Serbia

The Croatian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (MVEP) has recommended its citizens to postpone all non-essential travel to Serbia.

In a statement published today, the Ministry called on Croatian citizens to "exercise increased caution, monitor the current situation and obtain more detailed information before traveling, especially in light of the inappropriate and unfounded behavior by the authorities of the Republic of Serbia towards Croatian citizens."

"Considering that random road blockages often occur as a result of citizen protests, it is important to keep in mind that it is impossible to predict the traffic situation and eventual difficulties that could significantly affect traffic throughout the country. Croatian citizens are particularly recommended to avoid places where large numbers of people gather," the MVEP statement said.

At any time, in the event of an extraordinary situation or emergency outside of official hours, Croatian citizens have the right to contact the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in the Republic of Serbia via the emergency telephone number: 0038163485757.

"The decision to travel abroad is the personal responsibility of each individual. Recommendations and warnings for travel abroad, published on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia, are of an advisory nature," the announcement states.

In Serbia, roadblocks have been organized in recent days in response to students' calls for "civil disobedience," following the large protest held on June 28, which demanded the announcement of early elections.

Police intervened by removing the blockades and arresting the participants, after which opposition parties and students accused the authorities of "brutal" use of force.

Before the escalation of tensions in Serbia, authorities had expelled artists and citizens from neighboring countries who had expressed support for the protests in Serbia./ REL
