Commission on Disinformation, Zhupa: Censorship board, you want to totally

Democratic MP Ina Zhupa spoke from the Parliament about the Disinformation Commission's legal initiative.

Zhupa stated that the US itself has described it as a censorship board, while President Trump considered it a commission that aims to crack down on dissent.

Zhupa added that state support for investigative journalism is unacceptable and violates free speech.

"Based on this, from the US-Albania memorandum. Trump, the US president, called this disinformation censorship board, which you had an agreement with and considered an authoritarian structure to censor freedom of speech. Trump considered it to be used against opponents, so this commission was dissolved and with Trump's will. What has already been unmasked by the US president himself, which had different goals than those officially announced.

Unlike the nonsense you bring, the EU has focused on transparency. The EU strategy aims at transparency, removing fake accounts, aims at identifying foreign actors, your strategy does not have them, but aims at strengthening institutions in media intervention. These legitimate interventions, in a normal strategy, should be coordinated with the EU, NATO or with the hybrid studio in the Netherlands.

When a new incitement is raised, you do not include the financial cost, which is a violation of regulations and laws in Albania.

"The government will control the media, through start-ups, they will serve the interests of those who provide funds and then these start-ups will evaluate the quality of the news. The state will support investigative journalism, you say in the draft law. It will investigate scandals that will cut off the 'head' of Edi Rama, any mayor, or scandals of the opposition ," said Zhupa.
