The tragic death of Diogo Jota, the Portuguese Federation reacts: Deeply

Following the shocking news of the deaths of Liverpool striker Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva, the Portuguese Football Federation has reacted with a touching statement, expressing its deep sorrow for the loss of two precious figures of Portuguese football.

The official statement reads: “The Portuguese Football Federation and all of Portuguese football are deeply shocked by the tragic deaths of Diogo Jota and André Silva, this morning in Spain. More than an extraordinary player with almost 50 caps for the A national team, Diogo was an extraordinary man, respected by teammates and opponents, known for his contagious joy and as an exemplary figure in the community.”

The President of the Federation, on his own behalf and that of the institution he represents, expressed his most sincere condolences to the families, friends and clubs of the players – Liverpool FC and FC Penafiel.

The federation has officially requested from UEFA to hold a minute's silence in honor of Diogo and Andrés, before the match that the Portuguese women's national team will play against Spain, this Thursday, as part of the European Championship.

"We have lost two champions. The loss of Diogo Jota and André Silva is irreparable for Portuguese football and we will do everything to honor their legacy every day," the statement concluded.
