VIDEO/ Massive explosion at a chemical factory in China, 5 dead and dozens

A powerful explosion has occurred at a chemical factory in eastern China's Shandong province, causing at least five deaths and 19 injuries, while six other workers are still reported missing.

The incident occurred at the premises of Gaomi Youdao Chemical Co., a company that specializes in the production of pesticides and chemicals for medical use. The explosion was reportedly so powerful that it shattered windows at a warehouse more than three kilometers away, as shown in a video posted by a local resident.

The factory employs over 500 people, while over 230 firefighters participated in the operation to extinguish the flames and search for the missing, according to state broadcaster CCTV.

Chinese authorities have launched a full investigation to determine the causes of the explosion, which remain unclear. Security measures have been taken in the surrounding area, while the workers' families anxiously await information about their relatives.

This incident is another reminder of the high risk posed by some chemical industries in China, a country that has seen numerous fatal cases in recent years due to a lack of industrial safety standards.
