The United States Embassy reacted today for the first time to the May 11 parliamentary elections, although about two weeks have passed since this process.

Through a post on the official Facebook page, the embassy congratulates the Albanian people on these elections with a short message. It further states that they look forward to continuing the close partnership with Albania.

"We congratulate the people of Albania on the parliamentary elections and look forward to continuing our close partnership with Albania ," the embassy's response states.

What is noticeable is the fact that the embassy does not mention or congratulate Edi Rama, who secured victory again in these elections by acquiring a fourth term.

The US has clearly ignored Rama in this stance, if we cite similar examples in other countries.

Specifically, when elections were held in Belize, a small country in Central America, in March of this year, the embassy reacted within hours and congratulated not only the local people, but also Prime Minister John Briceño on his re-election to a second term.

" Congratulations to the people of Belize on their democratic elections. The United States congratulates the Honorable John Briceño on his successful re-election to a second term as Prime Minister of Belize. We applaud the people of Belize for their unwavering commitment to a democratic electoral process ," the US response said.
