The Italian military ship Spica brings 30 new immigrants from Italy to the port of Shëngjin.

The ship departed yesterday from the Port of Brindisi.

The 30 immigrants are people who have received deportation orders from Italian territory and are awaiting repatriation.

They are of various nationalities with criminal convictions or lack a residence permit in Italy and until yesterday were staying in detention centers for repatriation on Italian territory.

This is the first mission to send migrants to Albanian camps after the Italian Parliament approved modifications to the law on the management of illegal migration based on the Meloni - Rama Pact of November 6, 2023.

The 30 new immigrants will join around 50 others currently sheltering in Gjadra.

"It is not true that we are taking to Albania immigrants who are in a state of administrative irregularity, that is not the case. We have repatriated people who have been released from prison for several years for serious crimes, including rape, child pornography and so on," said Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi in a media appearance a few hours ago.

"This is the fourth "transfer" of irregular migrants on Italian territory to Albanian camps with expulsion orders. We are awaiting the decision of the European Court of Justice and the European norm on this issue in force since June 2026, so that we can then use the rest of the structure," he said.

Currently, according to information coming from Italian parliamentarians who have visited the Gjadri camp, its capacity for hosting migrants awaiting repatriation is around 96 places. / Syri.net / By Alba Kepi
