Trump warns Putin: If we find out that he is exploiting us, we will react
US President Donald Trump has made a strong statement on relations with Russia, leaving open the possibility of a change of position if it turns out that Moscow is exploiting his restrained stance.

During a press conference from the White House, Trump said he is ready to hold a joint meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in an effort to find a solution to the conflict in Ukraine.

"Right now, we are working with President Putin and we will see where we will be. I will do it, if necessary," Trump said, referring to the possibility of a meeting in Geneva.

As for not imposing new sanctions on Russia, the US president said he is avoiding this step so as not to disrupt efforts for a peace agreement.
"If I think I'm close to an agreement, I don't want to ruin it. And believe me, I'm much tougher than the people you're talking about," he declared.

Trump added that within two weeks he will decide on the approach he will take to Russia as part of the negotiations.
"I can't tell you right now if Putin wants peace, but we'll find out very soon. If he is using us, we will react differently. It will take me about a week and a half to see the situation clearly," he said.

The US president did not hide his disappointment at the recent incidents in Ukraine, mentioning that the events of two nights ago, where there were casualties between negotiations, have negatively affected the atmosphere of the talks.
