Albanian crime in Italy: Elvis Demçe and Ermal Arapaj are sentenced to

The Court of Cassation in Italy has given the final verdict against two leaders of rival Albanian gangs, Elvis Demçe and Ermal Arapaj, known for their involvement in international drug trafficking and violent clashes in Castelli Romani, near Rome.

Elvis Demçe has been sentenced to 15 years in prison, while his rival, Ermal Arapaj - known by the nickname "Ufo" - has been sentenced to 10 years and 2 months in prison, Italian media, including La Repubblica, report.

According to the investigations, the two Albanians were involved in a fierce struggle for control of the drug trafficking territory, which culminated in violent events between 2020-2021. Demche, a figure known for his links to international criminal organisations, including the 'Ndrangheta, Colombian traffickers and corrupt officials in ports, had planned the assassination of Arapaj on July 9, 2020 in Lanuvio. The attack failed and ended in an exchange of fire.

On September 5 of the same year, Demce's men set fire to Arapaj's villa and car in the Velletri area, in another act of revenge that reflects the high level of violence between Albanian criminal groups in Italy.
