KPA reinstates Tirana judge Altin Abdiu

The Special Appeals Chamber reversed the decision of the Independent Qualification Commission to dismiss Tirana judge Altin Abdiu and reinstated him. 

"The adjudicatory panel of the Special Appeals Chamber, composed of Ina Rama as chairperson, Sokol Çomo as rapporteur, Albana Shtylla, Natasha Mulaj, Rezarta Schuetz as members, announced the decision on case no. 38/2022, dated 06.09.2022, which concerns the appeal of the reassessment subject Altin Abdiu against the decision of the Independent Qualification Commission no. 543, dated 28.06.2022.

At the end of the trial in the deliberation room, the panel, based on Article 66, point 1, letter “b” of Law No. 84/2016, “On the temporary re-evaluation of judges and prosecutors in the Republic of Albania”, by majority vote, decided:

"Amending decision no. 543, dated 28.06.2022 of the Independent Qualification Commission and confirming in office the subject of the re-evaluation Altin Abdiu ," the KPA announcement states. 

Recall that the Commission dismissed Judge Altin Abdiu on June 28, 2022, for problems with the asset criterion, but the conclusion of the first instance of the vetting was found unfounded by the majority of the College. Meanwhile, he received a positive assessment of his figure and was considered to have reached a qualifying level in terms of professional aspects.
